The Franklin API will give you your own transactions, receipts and card overview data as JSON. One API key, a handful of endpoints, and the bookkeeping can run wherever you already work - a script, your BI stack, or an AI assistant that speaks MCP.

The full reference is public already, ahead of launch, so you can see exactly what you will be able to build. Authentication, endpoints, schemas and error codes all live there.

Reconciliation

Pull every card transaction into your own system and match it against supplier invoices.

Spend reporting shaped the way your team already reports, instead of the way a product decided.

Agents that close the books

Point Claude or ChatGPT at your Franklin data and let it find what is missing a receipt, then file it.

What it will not do

The API reads expense data and writes receipts and accounting codes. That is the whole surface.

It never moves money. No payments, no transfers, no card limit changes. Those need approval inside Franklin.
It never exposes full card details. Last four digits only - PCI DSS, and not negotiable.
It only sees your company. Every key is scoped to the company that issued it, and every request is logged against that key.

What a request looks like

Keys will be created in Franklin under Settings → API keys by an administrator. From there it is one header:

API access will be part of the product rather than an add-on - included on every plan, including the free one, and not gated behind a tier.
